Meet the New Con, Same as the Old Con: 'Ocean's 8'

"Ocean's 8" features Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean, sister of the (possibly) deceased Danny Ocean played by George Clooney in Stephen Soderburgh's "Ocean's 11" trilogy. It's out now on on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD.

Writer/director Gary Ross ("The Hunger Games") takes over for Soderburgh. Ross and co-writer Olivia Milch deliver a movie that fits in exactly with the previous three movies, instead making the heist crew all women instead of men. Otherwise, it's business as usual here.

Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson, Helen Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Akwafina round out the "eight" mentioned in the movie's title. Debbie Ocean has spent more than five years in prison plotting a jewel heist that takes place during the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual Met Gala.

Setting a robbery at one of the fashion world's biggest events gives the filmmakers a chance to indulge in some cameos from big-name designers and put the actors in some incredible gowns.

There are some wicked twists and quite a bit of misdirection (as required in these movies). Ross isn't quite as accomplished a heist movie director as Soderburgh (see also: "Logan Lucky"), but "Ocean's 8" delivers the same good time as its predecessors with the bonus of a crew of accomplished women getting a chance to work together onscreen.
